Fair question. There are a few great consumer web creation applications on the market - Adobe's Dreamweaver, Apple's iWeb, Realmac's Rapidweaver, Sandvox.
However, there is a fairly steep learning curve for web formats such as HTML, CSS, Javascript and PHP which are required for features to make your website really special.
If you have the time and are willing to put in the effort to learn code so you can create your own website, we'd say GO FOR IT!
However, most people would prefer to concentrate on their own business, and don't want to get bogged down in training manuals, user forums and developer assistance to troubleshoot web design problems.

There are now numerous website builders such as Wix, Squarespace, SiteBuilder and Weebly that allow you to build a website online very easily, and for free. But beware, 'free' may actually come at a cost. Learn Why
